Legend tells us that the olive tree was born on Adam's tomb from a seed coming from the earthly paradise. According to a Greek myth, Athena, goddess of wisdom, and Poseidon, god of the sea, fought each other over the dominion of Attica. Then Zeus established that he would win whoever brought men the most useful gift. Poseidon offered a horse, but Athena won by bringing an olive tree: an immortal tree from whose berries men would obtain nourishment, strength, health, beauty, light and heat for the home.
